TOZO HT2 Headphones Review |  Best Hybrid ANC with Hi-Res Audio and Deep Bass

Hey everyone! I’m taking a quick look at the TOZO HT2 Headphones, another pair of budget active noise-cancelling wireless Bluetooth headphones that go for under 50 bucks. The TOZO HT2 headphones come with Hi-Res audio certification, but just like with the SoundPeats Space, you don’t get that in wireless Bluetooth mode. There’s no high-end Bluetooth codec chip, such as LDAC, which is expected at this more affordable range. However, you can access Hi-Res certification when using the wired mode with a 3.5 mm headphone jack. These TOZO HT2 headphones come with an optional companion app from TOZO, compatible with both iOS and Android, which allows you to further customize the EQ profile.

Specs | TOZO HT2 Headphones

One spec that surprised me is the frequency range of the 40 mm dynamic driver, which claims to offer 16 Hz to 45,000 Hz. This is even wider than the already impressive 20 to 20,000 Hz range on the SoundPeats Space. So, if you happen to listen to tracks with extremely low bass or high treble notes, you should have a more comfortable listening experience. The headphones boast a 60-hour playback time, though with active noise cancellation on, it’s closer to 40 hours. This is powered by a 500 mAh battery, which is lower compared to the SoundPeats Space’s 1,000 mAh battery.

With up to 60 hours of listening time in ANC OFF mode, these over-ear headphones offer triple the endurance of many other Bluetooth headphones. A single charge provides enough juice to listen to over 700 songs or soundtrack multiple long-haul flights. Additionally, when the battery runs out, you can effortlessly transition to wired mode with the included 3.5 mm audio cable, ensuring uninterrupted listening.

Design | TOZO HT2 Headphones

The TOZO HT2 uses ultra-soft protein leather earcups, allowing you to wear them for long periods without discomfort. The earmuffs can automatically adjust to suit different head shapes, making them ideal for working from home or watching your favorite movies.

Inside the box, you’ll find the headphones, a USB Type-C charging cable, and a 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable for wired use. Interestingly, the cable is a golden shade instead of the usual white or black, which adds a little attention to detail, although it doesn’t exactly match the headphones’ color.

The headphones easily fold inward for transportation, although there’s no carrying case or pouch included. The build is primarily plastic, but it doesn’t feel cheap or hollow, offering a reassuringly sturdy feel. The memory foam padding on the headband and cushions is quite generous, thick, and super soft, making the headphones comfortable even after 6 hours of continuous listening. Despite extended use, there’s minimal heat build-up, so you won’t find yourself sweating while wearing them.

The headband is adjustable to suit different head sizes, and there’s a dedicated volume rocker and power key on the bottom of the headphones. These can also be used to play and pause your music. Once paired with your phone, you’ll find the standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, a USB Type-C port for charging, and an active noise cancellation button, which can also switch to ambient transparency mode. This feature allows you to hear your surroundings without removing the headphones, ideal for conversations.

Size Comparison

For a quick size comparison, the TOZO HT2 is very similar to the SoundPeats Space. Both feature the same 40 mm dynamic drivers, though the oversized SoundPeats logo is flashier, while the TOZO design is more subdued. However, the TOZO still looks clean and attractive, especially with the variety of colors available. The foldable and lightweight design allows you to easily pack the headphones into a bag or case, making them perfect for travel, sports, and daily use.

Companion App | TOZO HT2 Headphones

The companion app lets you pair the headphones after turning on Bluetooth and location services. It shows the battery percentage and offers several audio profiles, including ANC and transparency modes. There’s also a wind reduction mode, along with Leisure and Adaptive modes, which I was surprised to find on such a budget pair of ANC headphones. Adaptive ANC is typically found on flagship models from brands like Soundcore by Anker, which usually cost $100 to $200. This feature uses microphones to dynamically adjust noise cancellation levels based on your surroundings.

One quirk of the TOZO HT2 is that you must turn on both Bluetooth and the headphones before you can activate or deactivate ANC. This differs from the SoundPeats Space, where noise cancellation can be turned on even if Bluetooth is off, which is useful if you want to block out noise while sleeping without playing music.

While it would be nice to activate ANC independently, the system works well enough. The gear icon in the app also shows if any firmware updates are available. You can also adjust the EQ settings manually, with presets such as Bass Boosted, Bass Reduced, Classical, Hip-Hop, Original, Pop, R&B, Vocal, Treble(+), and Treble(-). This allows you to tweak the sound profile based on your music preferences.

Although the TOZO HT2 doesn’t automatically adjust the frequency for you based on hearing tests like some higher-end models, the sliders allow you to manually fine-tune the sound. The app also shows the frequency range for each preset profile, which is a nice touch.

There’s also an “Explore” tab in the app that offers playlists of nature sounds like waterfalls and wind noise, designed to help you relax or fall asleep. Lastly, the “Products and Community” tab shares news about new releases and offers a forum for user questions and updates.

Audio Quality | TOZO HT2 Headphones

As for audio quality, the 40 mm dynamic drivers offer pretty good sound reproduction. When listening to pop, EDM, or R&B tracks, the details come through clearly, and the volume is more than sufficient. If you’re listening to drum-heavy music, you’ll feel the kick in the lower end. Acoustic and classical tracks also sound good, with distinct treble and vocal clarity.

ANC & ENC Noise Cancellation | TOZO HT2 Headphones

Featuring a hybrid ANC algorithm and 3 ANC microphones, the TOZO HT2 delivers excellent noise control across a wide frequency range. Whether it’s the roar of airplane engines, subway noise, or office chatter, the ANC effectively minimizes interference for a great listening experience. The ENC (Environmental Noise Cancellation) also performs well, allowing you to talk clearly on the phone, even in noisy environments.

Latency

In a blind listening test against the SoundPeats Space, I found it hard to tell the difference, which is impressive for a budget pair of headphones. I’ve tested wireless headphones costing two or three times as much that offer similar sound quality.

While the TOZO HT2 lacks a low-latency gaming mode, which is present in the SoundPeats Space, I didn’t find latency to be an issue when watching videos. Since the left and right earcups are connected by a wire, the latency remains relatively low.

Verdict

While the enhanced frequency range doesn’t make a dramatic difference compared to the SoundPeats Space’s 20 to 20,000 Hz range, it’s subtle but noticeable. Overall, the TOZO HT2 offers excellent sound quality for a pair of headphones priced under $50.

When it comes to active noise cancellation, the extra profiles and modes give the TOZO HT2 a slight edge over the SoundPeats Space. Engine sounds and fan noise are almost completely suppressed, and the larger ear cushions help isolate external noise.

In conclusion, the TOZO HT2 Active Noise Cancelling Headphones are an excellent budget option, offering solid build quality, comfort, and impressive sound quality. The only minor drawbacks are that the ANC can’t be activated independently of Bluetooth, and the battery life is slightly shorter than the SoundPeats Space. However, for the price, the TOZO HT2 delivers great value with its customizable EQ and wide frequency range.
